We shipped a Japanese stone Gorinto from Japan to a customer in the United States by DHL.
A Gorinto is a traditional Japanese five-ring stone pagoda. This piece is about 6.1 inches tall, 3.15 inches wide, 3.15 inches long, and weighs about 2.82 lbs / 1.28 kg. Although it is compact, it is made of natural stone, so it has real weight. For this reason, we do not pack it like an ordinary lightweight item. We protect the surface, add cushioning, keep the item fixed inside the box, and protect the outer package.
Stone is a hard and durable material, but during international shipping, a package can move in many directions. Impact may also concentrate on the corners or bottom of the box. For this shipment, we protected the Gorinto itself, packed it so it would not move inside the box, and then added DHL outer packaging and a handling notice for international delivery.

This Gorinto is compact, but it still weighs about 1.28 kg. If a stone item moves inside the box during shipping, its own weight can create a strong impact. That is why it is important not only to wrap the item, but also to keep it from shifting inside the package.
For customers overseas, one of the biggest concerns when buying a stone product from Japan is whether it will really arrive safely. At Japanstones.shop, we record the actual packing process with photos to help reduce that concern.

What We Focus On When Shipping a Stone Gorinto Internationally
When shipping a stone product overseas, we pay special attention to three things: protecting the item itself, keeping it fixed inside the box, and protecting the outer package.
Stone is durable, but if impact concentrates on an edge, corner, or raised part, it may cause damage. For this reason, we first protected the surface with newspaper and then wrapped the item with air cushioning.
For a heavy item, even a small amount of movement inside the box can create strong impact. It is not enough to simply add cushioning. The item also needs to be packed so it does not move unnecessarily inside the box.
For this shipment, we packed the stone Gorinto carefully so it would not move significantly inside the box during transport. This part of the packing is not always visible from the outside, but it is very important for safe international shipping.
Outer Protection and DHL Shipping
For international shipping, it is important to protect not only the item itself, but also the condition of the outer package.
For this shipment, we placed the packed box inside DHL outer packaging for additional protection. The outer layer also helps reduce rubbing and light dirt during transport.
We also attached a FRAGILE / HANDLE WITH CARE sticker to the outside. Since this is a stone product, a clear handling notice is an important part of the shipping process.
This package was shipped from Japan to the United States by DHL with a tracking number. After shipment, the customer can check the delivery status online.
Packing Materials Used
