UPS Shipping: Yukimi Stone Lantern to the United States (US) — Packed in 4 Parcels (Japan)

Overview

When shipping stone internationally, the goal is not “soft wrapping” — it is eliminating movement and protecting edges, corners, and thin areas. A Yukimi stone lantern is heavy, and it is also a multi-part object. If parts can shift inside a box, impact concentrates at ridges and corners, where chips are most likely to occur.

For this order to the United States (US), we shipped the lantern as four separate parcels via UPS. The structure is simple and repeatable: surface protection → shock absorption → corner reinforcement → shape locking → carton reinforcement → labeling. Below is the method used for this shipment.

Shipping details

  • Carrier: UPS
  • Destination: United States (US)
  • Packages: 4 parcels (multi-part packing)
  • Key focus: Zero movement / protect corners & thin edges / prevent carton deformation

Packing materials used

Packing steps

1) Identify all parts and plan “no-contact” packing (4 parcels)

The first step is planning. A multi-part lantern should be packed so that stone never contacts stone inside any box. We separate parts by size/shape and assign them to four parcels, keeping delicate edges and thin areas away from pressure points.

2) Wrap each part: bubble wrap → reinforced cardboard (corner and ridge protection)

Yukimi stone lantern packaging — reinforced cardboard added (shape locking)

Photo: Reinforced cardboard creates a firm shell and protects corners and ridges.

Bubble wrap reduces impact, but heavy items can still “work loose” during transit. To prevent this, we add reinforced cardboard as a rigid outer layer. This locks the shape and protects corners, ridges, and thin edges where chips typically start.

3) Box each part with cushioning: achieve “zero movement” inside the carton

Yukimi stone lantern packaging — carton fit check and void fill

Photo: We fill all voids and confirm there is no internal movement before sealing.

This stage decides the outcome. Inside every carton, we pack so the stone part cannot move under vibration. If you can feel a shift when you gently shake the box, it is not finished yet. The goal is one solid block.

4) Reinforce seams and edges: prevent carton deformation in long-distance handling

Yukimi stone lantern packaging — strengthened carton corners

Photo: Corners are strengthened to resist crushing forces during sorting.

International parcels are often squeezed, stacked, and re-sorted. Reinforcing seams and corners reduces the risk of carton deformation, which can transfer force into the stone.

5) Repeat for all parcels: consistent layers, consistent results

The key is consistency. Even when the shape differs, the protection logic stays the same: wrap → reinforce → box → lock → reinforce.

6) Labeling and final appearance (ready for UPS)

FRAGILE labels are not magic, but visibility helps. More importantly, the internal structure is already locked so the parcel can survive normal handling.

Why this packing method works

  • Movement is eliminated: each carton is packed to a “zero movement” condition.
  • Edges and ridges are protected: reinforced cardboard prevents point-load damage.
  • Shock is reduced: bubble wrap absorbs impact before it reaches stone corners.
  • Cartons resist deformation: reinforced seams and corners reduce crushing transfer.
  • Multi-part safety: shipping in four parcels prevents stone-to-stone contact and concentrates less weight per box.

Estimated delivery time

This shipment was sent to the United States (US) with tracking via UPS. In this case, it arrived safely in about 4 days. Delivery time can vary due to customs and local conditions.

Notes for opening the packages

Stone parts are heavy. Please open the parcels on the floor or on a stable table. Use a cutter lightly and carefully, and avoid cutting deep near the inner layers. If you are assembling a multi-part stone lantern, keep parts on a soft surface (cardboard or a folded towel) during setup to avoid edge chips.
