UPS Shipping: Pink Yukimi Stone Lantern to the United States (US) — Packed in 2 Parcels (Japan)
Overview
When shipping stone internationally, the goal is not “soft wrapping” — it is eliminating movement and protecting edges, corners, and thin areas. Stone is hard, but impact concentrates at ridges and corners. A Yukimi stone lantern is also a multi-part object, so the safest approach is packing each part so that stone never contacts stone inside the carton.
For this order to the United States (US), we shipped the lantern as two separate parcels via UPS. The structure is simple and repeatable: surface protection → shock absorption → corner reinforcement → shape locking → carton reinforcement → labeling. Below is the method used for this shipment.
Shipping details
- Carrier: UPS (tracked)
- Destination: United States (US)
- Packages: 2 parcels (two-part packing)
- Tracking: Tracking numbers provided for both parcels
- Key focus: Zero movement / protect corners & thin edges / prevent carton deformation
Packing materials used
| Bubble wrap (air-cushion) | Primary shock absorption (reduces point-load impact on corners and ridges) |
| Reinforced cardboard sheets | Corner/edge guards + shape locking (creates a firm shell and prevents wrap collapse) |
| Inner cartons (boxes) | Part-by-part protection (keeps each piece isolated and prevents contact damage) |
| Cushioning / void fill | Zero movement inside each carton (prevents vibration loosening and repeated impacts) |
| Packing tape | Carton reinforcement (prevents opening and strengthens seams) |
| FRAGILE labels | Visibility for careful handling during sorting and delivery |
Packing steps
1) Confirm the two parts and plan “no-contact” packing (2 parcels)

The first step is planning. A multi-part stone lantern should be packed so that stone never contacts stone. We separate the two parts and assign them to two parcels, keeping delicate edges away from pressure points.
2) Wrap each part: bubble wrap → reinforced cardboard (corner and ridge protection)

Bubble wrap reduces impact, but heavy items can still “work loose” during transit. Reinforced cardboard works as a rigid outer layer that locks the shape and protects ridges, corners, and thin edges.
3) Box each part with cushioning: achieve “zero movement” inside the carton

Photo: Each wrapped part goes into its own carton with cushioning so it cannot shift.

Photo: We fill voids and check that there is no movement before sealing.
This is the most important stage: zero movement. Inside the carton, every gap is filled so the stone part cannot shift under vibration. If you can feel movement when you gently shake the box, add more cushioning until it becomes one solid block.
4) Reinforce seams and corners: prevent carton deformation during sorting

Photo: Carton seams and corners are reinforced to reduce crushing transfer.
International parcels are stacked and re-sorted. Reinforcing seams and corners helps the carton keep its shape, reducing the chance that external pressure transfers directly into the stone.
5) Final sealing and labeling (ready for UPS)

Why this packing method works
- Movement is eliminated: each carton is packed to a “zero movement” condition.
- Edges and ridges are protected: reinforced cardboard prevents point-load damage.
- Shock is reduced: bubble wrap absorbs impact before it reaches corners.
- Cartons resist deformation: reinforced seams and corners reduce crushing transfer.
- Two-part safety: shipping in two parcels prevents stone-to-stone contact and reduces weight per box.
Estimated delivery time
This shipment was sent to the United States (US) with tracking via UPS. Typical delivery time to the U.S. is around 3 business days, though delivery may vary due to customs and local conditions.
Notes for opening the packages
Stone parts are heavy. Please open the parcels on the floor or on a stable table. Use a cutter lightly and carefully, and avoid cutting deep near the inner layers. During setup, place parts on a soft surface (cardboard or a folded towel) to protect edges from accidental chips.
