The lantern consists of five components: the jewel (ball), umbrella (top), fire bowl, base, and legs. Each part is carved by skilled Japanese artisans using traditional stonemason tools like chisels and setta. The fine hammer marks on the surface express the warmth and individuality of true craftsmanship.
Notably, the granite from Okazaki is a type of plutonic rock formed approximately 65 to 100 million years ago. It is a natural material nurtured by the earth’s deep and ancient geological activity — truly a gift from nature.
You can place it beside bonsai or use it as a focal point in your Japanese garden.
