About Okazaki Natsuyama Stone
Okazaki Natsuyama Stone is a high-quality granite stone from the Natsuyama area of Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It is associated with geologic formation approximately 90 million years ago and is known for its fine grain and excellent workability.
This stone has long been used in traditional Japanese stonecraft, including stone lanterns, Jizo statues, and other cultural stoneworks. Its calm surface texture and balanced character also make it well suited to garden stone pieces such as chozubachi water basins.
About Chozubachi Water Basins
A chozubachi is a traditional Japanese stone water basin. In gardens, temples, and shrine settings, it adds a quiet visual focus and brings together stone, water, and space in a simple, natural way.
Today, smaller chozubachi are appreciated not only as garden accents, but also as decorative pieces near bonsai displays or as vessels that bring a calm Japanese atmosphere to a space. The combination of natural stone and water creates a grounded and understated beauty.
About This Handcrafted Piece
This kiku-shaped chozubachi water basin was handcrafted in 2010 by the stonemasons of Ishitake Stone Industry Co.,Ltd., a workshop founded in 1971. Its soft, chrysanthemum-inspired outline gives it a gentle presence while keeping the dignity of carved stone.
It works beautifully in a Japanese garden, beside a bonsai display, or as a decorative stone vessel in a quiet corner. Though compact in size, it has a satisfying weight and the calm character of natural stone.
