About Okazaki Natsuyama Stone
A stone lantern made of Japanese Okazaki natural stone. The small black part is biotite or iron.
Natsuyama Stone is a granite formed approximately 70–90 million years ago. It is quarried in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. For about 400 years, it has been used in traditional Japanese stone works such as stone lanterns, Jizo statues, komainu (guardian lion-dogs), and Inari fox statues.
