This Chicken figurine is carved from Andesite quarried in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture. Andesite is a fine-grained volcanic rock formed by magma activity hundreds of thousands to millions of years ago. It is known for its dense, uniform texture, which makes it ideal for detailed stone carving.
In Japan, Nakatsugawa andesite has long been used for statues, stone monuments, and religious figures such as Jizo and guardian dogs. Its gray tone and subtle appearance make it suitable for both sacred and decorative purposes.
