Granite Stone Ball
This handcrafted stone ball features 108 stitches, the same number as a real baseball, giving it a unique sense of realism and craftsmanship. The white and black parts of the stone are natural mica and iron.
Origin of Okazaki Granite
The granite found in the Okazaki region originates from magma that solidified deep underground about 90 million years ago (late Cretaceous to early Cenozoic period). Through plate tectonic activity, the magma slowly cooled, allowing large mineral crystals to form, creating the granite we see today. Subsequent uplift, weathering, and erosion eventually exposed these rocks at the surface, making them accessible for quarrying.
Characteristics of Okazaki Granite
-
Fine and dense grain
Slowly cooled magma results in a uniform, fine texture that is easy to work with. -
High hardness and durability
With a well-balanced composition of quartz, feldspar, and mica, this granite is exceptionally resistant to wind and rain, making it ideal for long-term use in Japanese gardens and monuments. -
Elegant color tones
Ranging from light gray to bluish hues, Okazaki granite conveys a refined and timeless beauty. When polished, it develops a lasting luster that enhances its natural appeal. -
Traditional applications
Okazaki has long been one of Japan’s leading stone-producing regions. Its granite has been used for stone lanterns, gorinto pagodas, temple architecture, and more. Known nationwide as “Okazaki Stone,” it has earned a high reputation for both quality and aesthetics.
