About Hanazawa Stone (Granite)
Hanazawa Stone is quarried in Hanazawa-cho, Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. This Japanese granite is valued for its uniformly fine grain, balanced hardness, and toughness. The finished surface is known for its clean, premium appearance, which is why it is widely used for tombstones, memorials, monuments, sculptures, and other decorative stonework.
About Tomatsu Stone Works
Tomatsu Stone Works is a stone workshop founded in 1902. The fourth-generation master, a graduate of an art university, specializes in carving Buddhist statues, guardian lion-dog statues (komainu), busts, and dragon sculptures. The studio also produces commissioned stone artworks for other Japanese stonemasons.
For a Japanese Garden
This compact fox statue is easy to place on a stable base near an entry path, gate, or garden approach. Granite is weather-resistant, making it suitable for outdoor use. Natural surface changes over time are part of the stone’s character.
