This Tanuki Natsuyama Stone Sculpture was made by a Japanese stone craftsman in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

A tanuki is often translated as a Japanese raccoon dog. In Japan, tanuki figures are familiar good-fortune symbols and are often associated with business prosperity, welcome, humor, and good luck.

This piece is made from Natsuyama Stone, a granite from the Natsuyama region of Okazaki City. The black specks on the stone surface are natural biotite or iron minerals, not artificial coloring.

About Natsuyama Stone

Natsuyama Stone is a granite associated with the Natsuyama region of Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Okazaki has long been known as one of Japan’s important stoneworking areas.

Natsuyama Stone has a calm natural tone and a fine-grained texture. The black specks visible on the surface are natural mineral characteristics, such as biotite or iron, and are part of the stone’s natural appearance.

Granite is a hard and durable natural stone. This makes the sculpture suitable for indoor display and also for outdoor placement in a stable location.

About Tanuki

Tanuki, or Japanese raccoon dogs, appear often in Japanese folklore. They are known for their friendly, humorous image and are often used as good-fortune figures.

In Japan, tanuki statues are especially associated with welcome, good luck, business prosperity, and a warm, approachable atmosphere.

This item is not a ceramic tanuki. It is a real granite stone sculpture made from Natsuyama Stone. Its compact size makes it easy to display, while its stone weight gives it a solid and authentic presence.
