Aji Stone “Sabi-ishi” – Eighty Million Years in the Making
Aji granite stone is quarried only in Aji and Mure, Kagawa. It formed roughly 85–70 million years ago (Late Cretaceous), when magma deep underground cooled slowly and crystallized. Over long uplift and weathering, iron-bearing minerals oxidized and developed a warm patina—this is the “Sabi-ishi” character.
This Jizo brings that sense of deep time into a small, calm form—an object shaped by geology and finished by handwork, aligned with the quiet wabi-sabi aesthetic.
