This is a miniature replica of the Chozubachi (water basin) at Ryoanji Temple in Kyoto, Japan, inscribed with the Zen phrase 吾唯足知 ("I only know contentment").

From Chapter 33 of the Tao Te Ching by Laozi: "He who knows contentment is rich." It conveys the wisdom of being satisfied within one's means and living without excess desire.
