In addition to his role as one of the Four Heavenly Kings, Bishamonten has been venerated independently across Central Asia, China, and other regions beyond Japan, under various names and forms.

About the Stone
Ushi-iwa Blue Stone is a type of stone quarried in the Ushi-iwa area of Hakoyanagi-cho, Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture. It is known for its fine grain and strong luster when polished. This high-grade stone is widely used for premium gravestones and has even been chosen for the gravesites of notable individuals.
The name "Ushi-iwa" (literally “Cow Rock”) is said to originate from a large rock in the shape of a cow that once stood in the area. From this region, a deep bluish stone was discovered, and thus it came to be called "Ushi-iwa Bluestone."
About the Workshop
Tomatsu Stone Carving Works is a stone workshop founded in 1902. The fourth-generation master, a graduate of an art university, specializes in crafting Buddhist statues, guardian lion-dog statues (Komainu), busts, and dragon sculptures. It is a professional studio that produces these stone artworks upon request from other Japanese stonemasons.
