This page records how we packed and shipped a Makabe Stone Juzu from Japan to the United States with UPS tracked shipping and same-day dispatch. Although this is a small item, stress during transport tends to concentrate not only on the stone beads themselves, but also on the tassel, the area around the main bead, the corners of the paulownia wood box, and the bottom of the outer carton. For that reason, we focus on preventing movement inside the box, avoiding pressure on the tassel, and stabilizing even the bottom of the outer carton.
For this shipment, the juzu was placed in its paulownia wood box, wrapped in bubble cushioning, fitted inside a cardboard carton so it would not shift, and then secured with tape and stretch film. In addition, the bottom of the cardboard box was bonded with hot glue to reduce the risk of bottom failure or deformation. Even with a small item, movement inside the package can cause problems during international shipping, so we prioritize stability over appearance.

Packing Record
1) Checking the juzu in its paulownia wood box
Photo 1 is used as the article thumbnail, so it is not repeated in the body of this page.
At this first stage, we check not just the juzu itself, but whether the tassel is being compressed, whether there is any unnatural tension around the clear main bead, and whether the juzu is sitting evenly inside the paulownia box. The stone beads are hard, but the tassel and cord are more vulnerable to pressure, so it is important to arrange everything properly before packing continues.
2) Wrapping the paulownia box in bubble cushioning and placing it into the carton
The protected paulownia box placed inside the cardboard carton

Even a light item can suffer damage if it slides or bounces inside the carton. The goal is not too much empty space and not excessive tightness, but controlled stability.
We wrap the outside of the paulownia box in bubble cushioning and place it into the cardboard carton. The important point here is not simply adding cushioning, but making sure the paulownia box cannot move inside the carton. As shown in the photo, we also use a poly layer so the contents do not shift to one side during handling and transit.
For this shipment, the bottom of the cardboard carton was also bonded with hot glue. Even with a small item, international shipping involves repeated handling, and that puts stress on the bottom of the carton. By reinforcing the base, we help reduce box distortion and bottom opening, improving the overall stability of the package.
3) Sealing the outer carton and adding stretch film for final reinforcement
Final condition after sealing and outer reinforcement

After the box is sealed with tape, the entire package is tightened with stretch film and labeled FRAGILE before shipment.
At the final stage, we seal the top and sides securely, then wrap the entire box with stretch film. This helps prevent tape edges from lifting during transit and increases the overall rigidity of the package. After applying a FRAGILE label for better handling visibility, the package was sent with UPS tracked shipping on the same day.
What We Prioritize in This Packing Method
For this juzu shipment, the goal is not excessive packaging. What matters is preventing movement inside the box, avoiding pressure on the tassel, keeping stress away from the corners of the paulownia box, and making sure the bottom of the outer carton remains strong. In this case, bonding the bottom of the carton with hot glue strengthens the base of the package itself.
During international shipping, a parcel is handled more times than many people realize. That is why we address weak points in order: the product, the box, the corners, the bottom, and the final seal. Even with a small item, our packing standards do not change.
FAQ
| Do you pack small items like juzu carefully as well? | Yes. Even though they do not have the weight of large stone products, they have different weak points such as tassels, box corners, and carton crushing, so we pack them carefully according to the item. |
| Is it not enough to ship it only in the paulownia box? | The paulownia box works well as an inner presentation box, but it is not enough by itself as a shipping container. Adding an outer carton and cushioning improves resistance to rubbing and pressure. |
| Why do you bond the bottom of the carton with hot glue? | Because the bottom of the carton receives repeated stress during international transit. Reinforcing it with hot glue helps reduce the risk of bottom failure, distortion, and separation at the seams. |
| Why do you use stretch film? | It supports the tape seal and tightens the entire outer package. That added unity helps reduce loosening during transit. |
| Do you simplify packing when you ship on the same day? | No. The condition of the package on arrival matters more than speed. Even with same-day shipping, we do not skip packing steps. |
