A customer in Australia purchased our Yukimi Stone Lantern. For international shipping, our priorities are simple: never let the stone parts touch each other and prevent movement inside the box.
This Yukimi stone lantern is made of two granite parts, so we shipped it as two separate parcels via DHL Express. Our goal was not just cushioning, but also shape retention, edge protection, and zero-movement packing inside the box for each part.

Packing materials used
| COA (stone lantern only) | A Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is included with stone lanterns, and the document is protected separately. |
|---|---|
| Japanese newspapers | Used as the first protective layer and also works as initial cushioning. |
| Bubble wrap | The main cushioning material wrapped around each stone part. |
| Stretch film | Keeps the protective materials firmly in place and prevents the bundle from loosening. |
| Cardboard tubes | Placed on protruding or exposed areas to reduce direct impact. |
| Corrugated cardboard sheets | Wrapped around the outside to increase rigidity and create an outer protective layer. |
| Cartons (2 boxes) | Each stone part is packed in its own box for greater safety. |
| Cushioning inside the cartons | Placed on the bottom and sides to reduce settling, side-to-side shifting, and empty space inside the box. |
| Packing tape | Used for sealing and reinforcement. Cross taping and H-taping are also used when needed. |
| Hot glue | Used to bond the bottom flaps and increase carton rigidity. This helps reduce the risk of bottom failure, flexing, and twisting. |
| FRAGILE labels | Clearly indicate careful handling during international transport. |
Packing steps
1) Check the stone parts before packing

Photo: Before packing, we check the shape and condition of each granite part. Because a Yukimi stone lantern has a multi-part structure, the roof and base are packed separately so the stone pieces do not touch during shipping.
2) First layer of protection: wrap with paper and bubble wrap

Photo: We first protect the surface with newspaper, then wrap it with bubble wrap to absorb impact. The basic idea is to place paper first so the cushioning material does not rub directly against the stone surface.
3) Protect corners and raised areas, and keep the shape from collapsing

Photo: Cardboard tubes and corrugated cardboard guards are placed on corners and protruding areas to reduce direct impact on vulnerable parts. We also wrap corrugated cardboard around the outside and secure it with stretch film so the overall package keeps its shape more easily.
4) Prepare two boxes and pack each part separately

Photo: We prepare two cartons so each stone part can be placed in its own box. Packing them separately helps prevent stone-to-stone contact and makes it easier to keep each part stable inside the carton. Cushioning is also added to the bottom and sides to reduce settling and side shifting.
5) Final check and shipping preparation

Photo: After placing each part into its own box, we check the cushioning condition and prepare the shipment. This order was shipped to Australia via DHL Express as two separate parcels.
Note: We do not rely on tape alone. We also bond the bottom flaps with hot glue to increase carton rigidity. For heavy items, stress tends to concentrate on the bottom, so we place strong emphasis on preventing bottom failure and flexing.
