Our Shopify store delivers the heritage and craftsmanship of Japanese stone artisans to gardens across the globe, with secure international shipping and reliable customer support.

Stone products available for purchase in the cart will be shipped by air freight. Larger stone products that are not available in the cart will be shipped via pallet transport, exclusively for B2B customers.

Packing Record — Yukimi Stone Lantern (5 boxes / 3 tracking numbers / UPS air shipment / US)

This page is a packing record for a granite stone Yukimi lantern shipped to the United States via UPS with same-day dispatch. For stone items, damage is not caused only by “drops.” In real transit, vibration-driven internal acceleration, vertical compression that flexes the carton bottom, concentrated point loads, and inertia amplified by even small gaps can combine and force impact into edges, corners, and thin details. That is why our priorities are true zero movement and compression resistance (prevent carton deformation and bottom failure).

Overall dimensions (fully assembled)

Note: These measurements are for the fully assembled lantern. For safe international transport, we ship it in separated components and pack them in multiple cartons.

Why UPS air shipment instead of ocean freight on a pallet

For heavy stone products, the most stable method is typically ocean freight on a pallet. However, ocean freight requires a longer lead time and often adds storage, paperwork, and extra handling steps. For this shipment, we prioritized delivery speed and also aimed to reduce shipping cost when possible. Therefore we selected UPS air shipment, supported by a reinforced packing design (zero movement + compression resistance).

Box breakdown (5 cartons)

Terminology note: “Fire Bag” refers to the fire box section of the lantern. “Reg” refers to the leg/support section.

Packing materials used

Extra reinforcement: Because these are heavy stone components, we reinforce the carton bottom with hot glue and secure cartons with yellow PP strapping bands to reduce deformation and loosening during transit.

Packing steps (one photo per carton)

Carton 1 — Ball (Finial)

Packed Ball (Finial) component of a granite stone Yukimi lantern, immobilized for UPS air shipment to the United States

Photo: Ball component (finished packing). We build surface protection, multi-layer cushioning, a rigid shell, then lock all layers and immobilize the box so nothing moves.

For stone parts, “soft wrapping” is not enough. The goal is to create a single solid block and then achieve true zero movement in the carton. After boxing, we gently shake-test the carton. There should be no sound and no movement. If anything moves, we reopen and add more fill.

Carton 2 — Roof (41.9 lbs (19 kg)) — heavy component reinforcement

Packed Roof component (41.9 lbs / 19 kg) of a granite stone Yukimi lantern, with hot-glued carton bottom and yellow PP strapping for UPS air shipment

Photo: Roof component (finished packing). The carton bottom is reinforced with hot glue, and the carton is locked with yellow PP strapping to prevent deformation and loosening.

This is the most important carton in this shipment. With heavy items, the biggest risk is often not a drop, but bottom flex and vertical compression during handling and stacking.

  • Extra cushioning on edges and corners
  • Rigid shell for compression resistance
  • Inner-box immobilization + full void fill (zero movement)
  • Hot-glued carton bottom to reduce bottom flex and bottom failure risk
  • Yellow PP strapping to lock the carton externally and reduce deformation

Carton 3 — Fire Bag (fire box section)

Packed Fire Bag (fire box section) component of a granite stone Yukimi lantern, secured to prevent rotation and point-load impact during UPS shipping

Photo: Fire Bag (finished packing). If rotation happens inside the carton, point loads concentrate on corners, so we lock layers and immobilize the box completely.

If a component can rotate, impact energy concentrates on corners. We prevent rotation by building a rigid shape and then eliminating all internal gaps.

Carton 4 — Base

Packed Base component of a granite stone Yukimi lantern, supported to distribute load and prevent tilting during UPS air shipment to the US

Photo: Base (finished packing). We prioritize load distribution and anti-tilt support, then fill all voids to achieve zero movement.

For the base, we focus on load distribution and anti-tilt support. After positioning, we fill all voids so the carton cannot shift under vibration.

Carton 5 — Reg (leg / support section)

Packed Reg (leg / support section) component of a granite stone Yukimi lantern, sealed with no internal voids to prevent movement during UPS shipping

Photo: Reg (finished packing). Any internal void becomes movement under vibration, so we seal the carton only after achieving zero voids.

For the final carton, the rule is the same: no voids. Any void becomes movement under vibration, and movement becomes impact.

Why we ship in 5 cartons

The assembled lantern weighs 83.3 lbs (37.8 kg). Shipping it as one unit increases the risk of bottom failure, carton deformation, and point-load impact. By separating the parts into 5 cartons, we optimize carton handling, improve safety, and increase transit durability.

Estimated delivery time

Delivery to the US is typically about 3–5 business days (depending on region and customs processing). Tracking is provided. This order has 3 tracking numbers because 5 cartons were handled as 3 consolidated shipments.

Notes for opening the cartons

The roof component weighs 41.9 lbs (19 kg). Please open cartons on the floor. Use a cutter lightly and avoid cutting deep into the protective layers. If you are unsure, do not lift heavy parts alone—work with two people.
