How We Pack a Micro-Size Gorinto Granite for the United States — DHL Express (Photo Log)

Overview

When shipping stone internationally, the goal is not “soft wrapping” — it is preventing a heavy item from moving. Granite is hard, but it is also heavy. If a parcel is dropped or squeezed, impact concentrates at edges and corners, and chips usually appear where force gathers.

This is a real packing example for a micro-size Gorinto shipped to the United States (US) via DHL Express. The item is approximately 6 in (15 cm) tall, 2.5 in (6 cm) long, and weighs about 2.65 lb (1.2 kg). The structure is simple and repeatable: surface protection → shock absorption → shape locking → carton protection → courier pouch.

Shipping details

  • Item size: Height 6 in (15 cm) / Length 2.5 in (6 cm)

Packing materials used

Packing steps

1) Check condition → surface protection (newspaper)

Micro-size Gorinto granite starts on newspaper for surface protection before wrapping.

First, we check the Gorinto for any chips or cracks, then apply newspaper as the base layer. This is not impact protection yet — it is surface protection so the granite stays clean during handling.

2) Bubble wrap + corrugated cardboard “shell” (shape locking)

Bubble wrap applied to the Gorinto, followed by single-face corrugated cardboard to form a rigid outer shell.

Bubble wrap absorbs shock, but heavy items can still “work loose” during transit. So we add single-face corrugated cardboard sheets to create a firm outer shell. This step helps prevent edge impact and keeps the wrap from collapsing.

3) Place into an inner carton with cushioning → lock with stretch film (zero movement)

Wrapped Gorinto placed into an inner carton with cushioning, then the structure is locked to prevent movement.

Photo: The wrapped Gorinto goes into the inner carton, surrounded by cushioning, then everything is locked.

This is the most important stage: no movement. The inner carton is packed so the stone cannot shift, even under vibration. Then we use stretch film to lock the structure so it does not loosen over long-distance handling.

4) Reinforce the carton (tape + stretch film) → secure the bottom with hot glue → prepare for courier pouch

Inner carton reinforced with tape and stretch film; the bottom is secured with hot glue on top of the stretch film.

Heavy contents can slowly loosen tape during transit. We reinforce the carton and then wrap again with stretch film so the box stays unified as a single block.

After that, we use hot glue on top of the stretch film to secure the carton bottom. This helps reduce bottom flex and keeps the structure stable under the item’s weight (2.65 lb / 1.2 kg).

5) Insert into the DHL Express pouch → FRAGILE marking

Reinforced carton inserted into a DHL Express pouch with a FRAGILE label, ready to ship to the United States.

Finally, the reinforced carton is inserted into the DHL Express pouch and sealed. We apply a FRAGILE label for visibility. Labels are not perfect, but higher visibility helps reduce rough handling.

Why this packing method works

  • Surface stays clean: Newspaper prevents fine scuffs during handling.
  • Impact is dispersed: Bubble wrap reduces point-load shocks at corners and edges.
  • Shape is stabilized: Corrugated cardboard acts like a rigid shell.
  • Movement is eliminated: The inner carton is packed to a “zero movement” condition.
  • Nothing loosens: Stretch film locks the entire structure for long-distance transit.
  • Bottom is reinforced: Hot glue secures the carton bottom on top of the stretch film, helping prevent flex and shifting under weight.

Estimated delivery time

This shipment is going to the United States (US) with a tracking number. It was dispatched on the same day via DHL Express. Typical delivery time is 3–7 business days, though delays may occur due to customs or local conditions.

Notes for opening the package

Stone is heavy for its size (2.65 lb / 1.2 kg). Please open the package on the floor or on a stable table. Use a cutter lightly and carefully so you do not cut into the contents.
