This page is a photo record of how we packed a granite Jizo statue for delivery to Australia (AU) via EMS. With stone, the goal is not “soft wrapping” — it is zero movement inside the box, strong shock absorption at edges and corners, and compression resistance so the carton does not deform during sorting and transport.
For this shipment, the item height is 8.85 in and the weight is 6.43 lb (2.9 kg). A heavier stone can build momentum inside a carton if gaps remain, so we use a simple structure: surface protection → cushioning → rigid shell → layer locking → zero-movement boxing → outer durability.
Shipping details

- Destination: Australia (AU)
- Item size: H 8.85 in
- Item weight: 6.43 lb (2.9 kg)
- Tracking: Provided
- Key focus: Zero movement / protect corners and ridges / prevent carton deformation
Packing materials used
| Soft paper (newspaper / packing paper) | Initial surface protection + small gap filling (prevents fine scuffs and stabilizes the fit) |
| Bubble wrap (air-cushion) | Main shock absorption (reduces point-load impact at corners and edges) |
| Single-face corrugated cardboard | Rigid “shell” for shape locking + edge protection (prevents wrap collapse under load) |
| Stretch film | Locks layers so nothing loosens during transit (prevents shifting over time) |
| Air cushions / kraft void fill | Zero-movement boxing (fills gaps so the wrapped stone cannot slide, rotate, or bounce) |
| Shipping carton (box) | Outer protection (keeps the wrapped stone safe from direct hits and crushing) |
| Hot glue (bottom sealing) | Bottom reinforcement (prevents the carton base from flexing or opening under load) |
| Tape (packing tape) | Reinforces seams and prevents accidental opening |
| FRAGILE label | Visibility for careful handling during sorting and delivery |
| EMS label pouch / documents sleeve | Protects shipping label and customs documents from dirt and moisture |
Packing steps
1) Check condition → surface protection (soft paper)
Photo: We begin with a condition check and light surface protection so the granite stays clean while we build the layers.
First, we check the Jizo for any chips or cracks, then apply soft paper as the base layer. This stage is not impact protection yet — it is surface protection to prevent fine scuffs during handling.
2) Bubble wrap (shock absorption) — build thickness where impact concentrates

Photo: We add bubble wrap to absorb shock, increasing thickness around corners and raised details.
Bubble wrap reduces point-load impact, especially around corners, ridges, and carved details. For a 6.43 lb (2.9 kg) stone item, we prioritize thickness so sudden impacts do not concentrate on one edge.
3) Add a corrugated “shell” (shape locking + edge protection)
Photo: Corrugated cardboard acts like a firm shell so the wrap does not collapse and edges stay protected.
Bubble wrap alone can compress over time. We add single-face corrugated cardboard as a rigid outer shell so the shape stays stable and edges remain protected under pressure.
4) Lock every layer with stretch film (nothing loosens)
Next, we wrap stretch film around the full structure. The goal is simple: no loosening — the layers must stay unified as one block even under vibration.
5) Carton bottom reinforcement (hot glue) → zero-movement fixing (void fill)

Photo: The carton bottom is reinforced, then gaps are filled so the wrapped stone cannot slide, rotate, or bounce.
Before placing the item, we reinforce the carton bottom using hot glue so the base cannot flex or open. Then we place the wrapped Jizo into the carton and fill all gaps with air cushions / void fill. If we detect movement, we reopen and add more fill until the package reaches a true zero-movement condition.
6) Seal → label pouch → FRAGILE marking (ready to ship)

Photo: The carton is sealed, reinforced, and labeled. Documents are protected in the label pouch.
Finally, we seal the carton with reinforced taping, add a FRAGILE marking for visibility, and place the EMS label and documents into a protective pouch. Labels are not perfect, but visibility helps reduce rough handling.
Why this packing method works
- Surface stays clean: Soft paper prevents fine scuffs while building the layers.
- Impact is dispersed: Bubble wrap reduces point-load shocks at corners and edges.
- Shape is stabilized: Corrugated cardboard acts like a rigid shell against compression.
- Nothing loosens: Stretch film locks the structure into one solid block.
- Movement is eliminated: Void fill immobilizes the stone inside the carton.
- Bottom is reinforced: Hot glue strengthens the carton base against flexing and opening.
Estimated delivery time
EMS deliveries to Australia typically arrive in 3–10 business days, though timing can vary due to customs, transport conditions, and local delivery volume. Tracking is provided so the buyer can follow the shipment step by step.
Notes for opening the package
Stone is heavy for its size (6.43 lb (2.9 kg)). Please open the package on the floor or on a stable table. Use a cutter lightly and carefully so you do not cut into the protective layers. If you feel resistance, stop and remove the layers by hand.
