Shipping stone sculptures internationally requires more than just cushioning. Stone is strong, but its weight can turn a small drop into a concentrated impact on one point—especially on edges and corners. For this reason, we apply a standardized, multi-layer packing method to every stone product we ship overseas.
This Aji Rust Stone Jizo was sold to the United States (US). The sculpture itself weighs 1.14 lb (516 g). We shipped it via DHL with same-day dispatch, including a tracking number. With this packing method, we aim for fast delivery and safe arrival without damage.
Packing Aji Rust Stone Jizo for DHL Shipping to the US
Packing materials used
| Newspaper (paper wrap) | Initial surface protection to prevent scratches and direct edge contact |
| Air-cushion (bubble wrap) | Shock absorption and impact dispersion, especially around corners and base |
| Stretch film (hand wrap) | Locks layers in place so they cannot loosen during long transit |
| Corrugated cardboard (roll / sheets) | Adds rigidity and reduces point-load impact on stone |
| Inner carton | Creates a tight “first shell” so the item cannot move |
| Outer carton (double-box) | Second shell to protect against drops, compression, and corner impact |
| FRAGILE label | Clear handling signal for international sorting and delivery routes |
Step-by-step packing process
1) Paper wrapping (surface protection)

The Jizo sculpture is first placed on clean newspaper and wrapped fully. This layer protects the surface finish and reduces micro-chipping caused by friction during transport.
2) Air-cushion protection (multi-layer)

Multiple layers of air-cushion are applied, with extra attention to corners and the base where impact tends to concentrate. The goal is to spread shock across a wide area rather than letting it hit one point.
3) Corrugated reinforcement + tight wrapping (rigidity)

We wrap corrugated cardboard around the cushioned sculpture to add rigidity. Then we secure everything tightly using stretch film so the layers cannot loosen during long-distance transit.
4) Inner carton placement (no movement)

The reinforced sculpture is placed into an inner carton with minimal empty space. We aim for a snug fit so the item cannot shift even if the box is turned or dropped.
5) Double-box sealing + FRAGILE label (outer protection)

The inner carton is then placed into an outer carton to create a double-box structure. After sealing, we apply a clear FRAGILE label. This two-shell method greatly reduces risk from drops, compression, and corner impact.
Shipping to the US via DHL (tracking included)
We shipped this package via DHL with a tracking number, allowing the buyer to monitor the shipment at every stage. DHL’s international network is well suited for stone items that require careful handling and fast delivery.
If DHL contacts you to confirm customs charges, please respond and pay promptly so the shipment can continue moving without delay.
US import duty and DHL customs payment
Please note: Japanese products imported into the United States are subject to an import duty of 15%. DHL will handle the customs process and will request payment from the buyer for the 15% import duty plus any DHL customs clearance/handling fee. Please pay these charges directly to DHL when contacted, so the delivery can proceed without delay.
Duty rates and customs rules can change, and the final amount may vary depending on the shipment and local procedures.
Why this packing method works
Stone items fail when impact force is concentrated. Our method focuses on (1) distributing impact across multiple layers, (2) eliminating internal movement, and (3) reinforcing the structure with a rigid double-box system. This is why we pack every stone Jizo carefully for long-distance DHL shipping to the US.
