UPS Shipping: Chozubachi (Stone Water Bowl) to Germany — Packing Method (Japan)
Overview
Stone is durable, but international shipping is tough on heavy items. The real risk is not the stone “breaking easily” — it is impact on edges, carton deformation, and internal movement during multi-hub handling.
For this order, we shipped a Chozubachi (stone water bowl) from Japan to Germany via UPS with a tracking number. The packing goal is simple: protect the edges, absorb shocks, and lock the item into a zero-movement condition. Below is the exact method shown in the photos.
Shipping details
- Carrier: UPS (tracking provided)
- Destination: Germany
- Item: Chozubachi (stone water bowl)
- Key focus: Protect edges / prevent shifting / keep the carton rigid
Packing materials used
| Air cushions | Shock absorption + fills void space so the bowl cannot move inside the carton |
| Reinforced cardboard | Adds rigidity and protects edges from point-load impact |
| Double-wall carton | Primary protection against crushing and stacking pressure |
| PP band (strapping) | Compression and structural stability (reduces carton deformation during transit) |
| Cloth tape | High-strength sealing (resists friction and humidity during long-distance transport) |
Packing steps
1) Base protection and edge coverage

Photo 1: We begin with base protection to cover the stone surface and edges before building rigidity.
We start by protecting contact points and edges. With stone, small impacts concentrate where the shape changes — so we cover edges first.
2) Full air-cushion wrapping (shock absorption)

Photo 2: Thick air cushions are wrapped around the Chozubachi to absorb shocks and vibration.
Air cushions absorb impacts during sorting and delivery. This layer reduces point-load shocks on edges and corners.
3) Reinforced cardboard for rigidity (shape locking)

Photo 3: Reinforced cardboard is added to create a rigid “shell” and stabilize the package.
Soft layers alone can compress over time. Cardboard reinforcement adds rigidity and helps distribute pressure away from a single edge.
4) Double-wall carton packing (zero movement)

Photo 4: The protected Chozubachi is placed into a double-wall carton and packed tightly to eliminate movement.
The most important stage is no movement. We fill voids so the bowl cannot shift under vibration.
5) PP band compression + cloth tape reinforcement

Photo 5: PP strapping and cloth tape reinforce the carton for UPS international handling — ready to ship.
Strapping keeps the carton structurally stable, and cloth tape resists friction and humidity. Together, they help prevent deformation during long-distance transport.
Why this packing method works
- Impact is dispersed: air cushions reduce point-load shocks on edges.
- Carton stays rigid: reinforced cardboard + double-wall carton resist deformation.
- No internal movement: tight packing prevents shifting under vibration.
- Structural stability: PP band compression helps prevent flex during transit.
- Secure sealing: cloth tape keeps the carton sealed through multiple handling points.
Estimated delivery time
This shipment is going to Germany via UPS with a tracking number. Typical delivery time is 3–7 business days after dispatch, though delays may occur due to customs or local conditions.
Notes for opening the package
Stone is heavy for its size. Please open the package on the floor or on a stable surface. Use a cutter lightly and carefully so you do not cut into the contents.
