Air Shipping: Small Yukimi Stone Lantern to the United States (US) — Packing Method (Japan)
Overview
We ship Small Yukimi Stone Lanterns from Japan to customers in the United States (US) on a regular basis. Because stone is heavy and edges are vulnerable, the goal is not “soft wrapping”—it is zero movement inside the box and no stone-to-stone contact during transit.
This lantern has two main parts—the umbrella and the firebox—so we ship it as two separate boxes. Separating parts prevents friction damage caused by vibration and reduces the risk of chipping at corners.
Certificate of Authenticity: Stone lantern orders include a certificate. We place it in an envelope and protect it with cardboard so it stays flat and does not bend during shipping.

Packing materials used
| Protective paper | Initial surface protection (prevents fine scuffs during handling) |
| Bubble wrap (air-cushion) | Shock absorption (reduces point-load impact at corners and edges) |
| Cardboard sheets / inserts | Shape locking + corner protection (stabilizes the wrap and strengthens the structure) |
| Inner box / carton | Primary protection (keeps the wrapped stone from direct hits and crushing) |
| Double-box lining (cardboard) | Extra compression resistance (helps prevent deformation during transport) |
| Stretch film | Locks layers so nothing loosens during transit (prevents shifting over time) |
| Heavy-duty packing tape | Reinforces the carton and prevents accidental opening |
| Certificate of Authenticity + envelope | Included with stone lantern orders (kept clean and organized) |
| Cardboard (anti-bend document protector) | Prevents the certificate from bending during shipping |
Packing steps
1) Firebox: protect the surface → lock the shape with cardboard

Photo: The firebox is protected with paper and cardboard to stabilize edges and prevent surface scuffs.
We start by protecting the granite surface, then add cardboard to stabilize the shape. This reduces corner impact and keeps the wrap from collapsing.
2) Umbrella: wrap securely → protect corners and edges

Photo: The umbrella section is wrapped securely to protect ridges, corners, and edges during air shipping.
The umbrella has vulnerable ridges. We wrap it carefully and build thickness around corners so impact is dispersed instead of concentrated.
3) Inner box: double-box lining → improve compression resistance

Photo: Cardboard lining supports a double-box structure to resist crushing and deformation.
We line the inner box with cardboard to improve compression resistance. This helps protect heavy stone against squeezing during sorting and transport.
4) Add extra inner protection → fill gaps and prevent movement

Photo: Additional cardboard is added to eliminate gaps and reach a zero-movement condition.
This stage is about zero movement. We add cardboard where needed so the wrapped stone cannot shift, rotate, or slide inside the box.
5) Lock the structure with stretch film → keep layers from loosening

Photo: Stretch film locks the structure so nothing loosens during long-distance handling.
Heavy items can slowly loosen tape over time. Stretch film helps keep the entire structure unified as a single block.
6) Place all protected parts into the cartons → two-box shipment

Photo: Each main part is boxed separately to prevent stone-to-stone contact.
We pack the umbrella and firebox in separate cartons. This eliminates contact between parts and reduces friction risk during vibration.
7) Reinforce the cartons with heavy-duty tape

Photo: Heavy-duty tape reinforces the carton and prevents accidental opening.
We reinforce key seams and corners so the cartons stay stable through international sorting and delivery.
8) Final boxed parcels → ready to ship (final package photo)

Photo: Final boxed parcels, ready to ship. We keep a final package photo for record.
After final checks, we take a final package photo and provide the tracking number so the customer can follow the shipment.
Why this packing method works
- No stone-to-stone contact: Two-box shipping prevents friction damage between parts.
- Impact is dispersed: Bubble wrap reduces point-load shocks at corners and edges.
- Shape is stabilized: Cardboard reinforcement locks the structure and protects ridges.
- Movement is eliminated: Gaps are filled to reach a zero-movement condition.
- Nothing loosens: Stretch film helps keep layers unified during long-distance handling.
- Certificate stays flat: The certificate is protected in an envelope with cardboard anti-bend protection.
Estimated delivery time
Typical air shipping delivery time to the United States is fast, but it can vary by destination area, carrier, and local conditions. Tracking is provided for both parcels.
Notes for opening the package
Stone is heavy for its size. Please open the cartons on the floor or on a stable table. Use a cutter lightly and carefully so you do not cut into the protective layers or the stone surface.
