About the Work

Made by a stonemason craftsman whose workshop was founded in 1913.

This product is handmade using granite. The stone is cut from the raw block and the outline is shaped by hand. The front surface is finely hammered in a traditional process called a "Bishan" finish. The eyes and mouth are painted black.

This product is easy to place at the entrance. In Japan, frog figurines are also considered lucky charms, symbolizing "safe return home" and "return of money." It is a cute and popular product, carefully and lovingly made by Japanese craftsmen. Please check the photos.

About Natsuyama Stone

  • Origin: Granite quarried around Natsuyama in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
  • Geological Formation: Formed from magma that solidified deep underground about 60–90 million years ago (late Cretaceous to early Cenozoic period).
  • Stone Quality: Bluish-gray color, fine grain, and uniform texture—beautiful, workable, and durable.
  • History: Widely used by Okazaki stonemasons for centuries to create stone lanterns, Jizo statues, gorinto pagodas, and gravestones.
  • Characteristics: Calm bluish-gray tone, refined appearance. When polished, produces a soft luster. Composed of quartz, feldspar, and mica with fine crystals suitable for precise carving.
  • Durability: High hardness and strong resistance to weathering—suitable for outdoor use in gardens, temples, and monuments, maintaining beauty for decades.
  • Evaluation: Regarded as one of the representative granites of Okazaki, highly valued throughout Japan.

The black parts on the back are natural iron and mica.
