Japanstones.shop ships Japanese stone products to customers around the world. For this shipment, we sent an Isseki Gorinto, a one-piece Japanese five-element stone pagoda, from Japan to the United States using DHL international air service.
A Gorinto is a traditional Japanese Buddhist stone monument composed of five symbolic forms. While many stone Gorinto are assembled from multiple pieces, this Isseki Gorinto was carved as one continuous piece of granite from the base to the top.
The stone is Okazaki Nakame Stone, a type of granite from the Okazaki region of Japan. The small black areas visible on the surface are natural mineral features associated with biotite and iron in the stone.

Shipping an Isseki Gorinto to the United States by DHL
This Isseki Gorinto is carved continuously from a single piece of stone, from the square base through the rounded and roof-shaped sections to the top.
Because the different forms are all part of the same stone, we protected the entire piece according to its three-dimensional shape rather than packing separate components individually.
The Gorinto was wrapped with a protective mat and bubble wrap. Inside the cardboard box, corrugated cardboard and cylindrical cushioning inserts were used to fill open spaces and help prevent the stone from shifting during transportation.

Packing for a Gorinto Carved from a Single Piece of Stone
An Isseki Gorinto combines several different shapes in one continuous stone form, including a square base, rounded sections, a roof-shaped section, and the uppermost section.
For this reason, we protected the entire three-dimensional outline rather than focusing on only one flat surface. A protective mat and bubble wrap were used to cover the stone and the stepped areas around the piece.
After the Gorinto was placed inside the cardboard box, corrugated cardboard and cylindrical cushioning inserts were used to adjust the open spaces around it. The bottom of the cardboard box was reinforced with hot glue to help prevent it from opening under the weight of the stone product.
