We shipped a Japanese stone Jizo statue from Japan to a customer in the United States by UPS.
This Jizo statue was made in 2025. It is about 13 inches tall and weighs about 11.46 lbs / 5.2 kg. Although it is a compact stone statue, it is made from granite, so it has real weight. For international shipping, it is important to keep the statue firmly in place inside the box.
Stone is a hard and durable material, but during international shipping, a package can move in many directions. Impact may also concentrate on the corners or bottom of the box. For this reason, we protected the statue itself, fixed it securely inside the box, reinforced the outer box, and placed the shipping documents where they could be checked easily.

This Jizo statue weighs about 5.2 kg. It is small enough to hold, but during international shipping, this weight can create strong impact if the statue moves inside the box.
For that reason, we did not simply wrap it with cushioning material. We also placed cardboard supports around the statue so it would not move inside the box.

What We Focus On When Shipping a Stone Jizo Statue Internationally
When shipping a stone product overseas, we pay special attention to three things: protecting the item itself, keeping it fixed inside the box, and keeping the outer box strong.
Stone is a durable material, but if strong impact concentrates on a corner, edge, or narrow part, it may cause damage. For this reason, we first protected the surface with newspaper and then wrapped the statue with air cushioning.
For heavy items, even a small amount of movement inside the box can create a large force. It is not enough to simply add cushioning. The item also needs to be fixed in place.
For this shipment, we placed several round cardboard supports inside the box. These supports filled the empty space and helped prevent the Jizo statue from moving sideways during transport.
Outer Box and Shipping Documents
For international shipping, it is important to protect not only the item, but also the outer box.
Because stone products are heavy, the bottom and sides of the box can receive a lot of stress. We reduced empty space inside the box so the internal supports would stay in position and the statue would not shift during transport.
We also reinforced the bottom of the cardboard box with hot glue where needed, to reduce the risk of the bottom opening or failing under the weight. Even a compact stone product can be heavy, so reinforcing the bottom of the box is an important step for safe international shipping.
After checking the internal fixing, we closed the outer box and protected the outside with stretch film. Stretch film is not waterproof packaging, but it helps reduce dirt, rubbing, label damage, and light wear on the surface of the box during transport.
Finally, we attached the UPS international shipping documents to the top of the box. For international delivery, customs invoices and other documents may need to be checked. Placing the documents in an easy-to-see location helps UPS and customs staff process the package smoothly.

| Stretch film | Used to help protect the surface of the outer box and support the shipping label and documents. |
