We shipped a granite stone owl ornament from Japan to a customer in the United States by DHL.
This item was purchased on a Friday. For international shipping, carrier pickup and shipping operations may be limited over the weekend, so the Friday order was shipped on Monday by DHL.
Even a small granite item needs careful packing for international delivery. Granite is a hard material, but if the item moves inside the box or impact is concentrated on one point, chips or damage may occur.
For that reason, we protect the item itself, keep it from moving inside the box, and reinforce the outer package before shipping.

Although this is a small ornament, it has the solid weight of a real granite item. Because of that weight, we focused not only on protecting the surface, but also on keeping the item fixed inside the package.
Import duties, customs fees, sales tax, or other local charges may be charged by the destination country according to its own import rules.

Checking the Item Before Packing
Before packing, we checked the granite owl itself.
This owl has a soft, rounded shape, but the material is granite. It is small, but it has much more weight than a ceramic or wooden ornament.
The areas that need extra care are the carved face, the bottom, and the rounded outer shape. To prevent the item from rolling, tilting, or hitting the inside of the box during transport, we packed it so that the whole body was protected.
Wrapping the Stone Item
The granite owl was first placed on paper, then wrapped with air cushioning.
Air cushioning helps absorb small impacts during transport. We covered the entire item so that direct pressure would not easily reach the face or bottom.
Granite looks strong, but during international shipping a box may be placed sideways, stacked, or handled with many other packages. That is why protecting the item itself is an important first step.
Keeping the Item from Moving Inside the Box
Next, the wrapped owl was placed inside the cardboard box.
The most important point is to avoid empty space inside the box. If there is too much room, the item can move during transport. With a stone item, even a small amount of movement can create strong impact because of the weight.
For this shipment, we used air cushioning to hold the item in place and reduce movement from the sides, top, and bottom.
Reinforcing the Bottom of the Box with Hot Glue
Even small granite products can be heavy, so the bottom of the cardboard box needs special attention.
For this package, we added an extra cardboard board to the bottom of the box and attached it with hot glue. This helps reduce the risk of the box bottom opening or becoming weak under the weight during transport.
For international shipping of stone products, it is not enough to protect only the item itself. The outer box also needs to stay strong until delivery.
Reinforcing the Outer Box with Film and Tape
After the item was placed inside the box, the outer box was wrapped with stretch film.
Stretch film helps reduce rubbing on the surface of the box and helps keep the tape from peeling. It also helps hold the box together as one tight package during transport.
We also used packing tape to seal and reinforce the box. Because stone items have real weight, the bottom and sides of the box can receive extra stress. Reinforcing the outer box helps protect the item inside.
Securing the Package with a Packing Band
For this shipment, we also used a yellow packing band around the outer box.
Even though the package is not large, the item inside is made of granite and has weight. A packing band helps keep the box from opening, loosening, or expanding during transport.
DHL international shipping includes several steps, such as pickup, sorting, air transport, customs clearance, and final delivery. The package may not always stay in the same position during that process, so securing the outside of the box is also important.
Preparing the Package for DHL Shipping
Finally, the package was placed in a DHL shipping bag and marked with a FRAGILE / HANDLE WITH CARE label.
A fragile label shows that the package should be handled with care. However, a label alone does not protect the item. That is why we protect the item itself, keep it fixed inside the box, reinforce the box bottom, and secure the outer package before shipping.

Why Careful Packing Matters for Small Granite Items
This granite owl is a small ornament, but it is made from real stone. Unlike lightweight goods, a stone item can create a strong impact inside the box if it moves during transport.
For that reason, we carefully wrap small granite items, keep them fixed inside the box, and reinforce the outside package before international shipping.
