Nagoya, Japan Shrine Visit Report 2026 Mizuho No.32 Hokora
A Small Hokora Shrine in Yatomi-dori 1-chome, Mizuho Ward, Nagoya, Japan — A Town-Corner Prayer Seen from a Car at a Traffic Light
On May 16, 2026, while driving through Yatomi-dori 1-chome in Mizuho Ward, Nagoya, Japan, I photographed a small shrine that had caught my attention for some time.
This was an observation from inside the car while waiting at a traffic light. I did not stand in front of the shrine or visit it directly. For that reason, the shrine name, deity, and detailed history could not be confirmed.
This article records only what I could see on site: a small place of prayer remaining along the road.
It is not a large shrine. It is not a tourist site. Still, I could see a small shrine neatly enshrined in one corner of an apartment building, with sakaki branches and offerings placed in front of it. It felt like a small place of faith that is still being cared for within the town.

A Small Place of Faith in One Corner of an Apartment Building
From what I could see on site, the shrine is placed in one corner of an apartment building.
A small wooden shrine stands on a stone base, with sakaki branches and offerings placed in front of it. A small stone stand-like object can also be seen below the shrine.
There is no large shrine ground or torii gate, but the space appears to be kept in order. It did not look abandoned. It felt like a small place of prayer that someone still watches over and maintains.
Recording a Place Even When Its History Is Unknown
The detailed history of this small shrine could not be confirmed at this time.
Many small shrines and places of faith remain in towns without clear names or easily available histories. Even recording only what can be seen on site can help preserve the memory of a local place.
Why This Place Matters
The history of a town does not remain only in large shrines or famous historic sites. A small shrine placed in one corner of an apartment building, sakaki branches, offerings, and a stone base can also preserve the faith and time protected by local people.
The small shrine in Yatomi-dori 1-chome was only observed from inside the car, but it remains a small town-corner record of prayer worth preserving.
