On January 7, I visited Gosya-gu Shrine in Tenpaku Ward, Nagoya. In a corner of the shrine grounds, traces of World War II were preserved and kept in place.
War-Damaged Stone Monuments at Gosya-gu Shrine, Tenpaku Ward, Nagoya

Within the precincts of Gosya-gu Shrine, several stone monuments and stone lanterns remain in a visibly damaged condition. On these stoneworks, the following types of damage can be observed: missing sections on the top (roof/hat components), broken shafts, chipped corners, and areas where the surface has flaked away.
The area around Gosya-gu Shrine was affected by the Nagoya Air Raids carried out in 1945. Some of the damaged stone monuments and stone lanterns in the shrine grounds are said to have been damaged during those air raids. At the site, they are kept and displayed without restoration or reconstruction, and remain placed as damaged.

Some steles include carved information such as the year of erection and the names of donors. In certain cases, parts of the inscriptions are still legible. In other cases, damage has removed portions of the text, making the full inscription difficult to read.
At present, these stone monuments are gathered in one area of the shrine grounds. An information board is installed nearby. There are no special display cases or coverings, and the stones are preserved outdoors in the same environment as other stoneworks on the site. While the surrounding grounds are maintained, no clear signs of repair work on the monuments themselves are visible.
Within Gosya-gu Shrine, stoneworks erected before the war and stoneworks arranged after the war coexist in the same precinct. Differences in condition and form make it possible to visually confirm variations in age and the degree of impact.
In this article, only the facts have been recorded. As a person engaged in cross-border e-commerce, it is most desirable that the world remains at peace.
